bikers at starbucks
passing around pictures
of their grandchildren
charred brittle branches
scattered on the forest floor
glory once struck here
rain is a no-show
crickets and moon perform
every nightβ for now
a lake we swam in
long before the drought
sexuality
watching kids at play
sakura trees bend and sigh
ahhh, the transience
unhappy campers
cats rattling empty bowls
dinner still not served
dry wind in dry grass
sweeping out cigarette butts
dead leaves and bark
once over the hearth
photographs of her children
βnow only of cats
carpenters next door
hammering awayβ slower
than that woodpecker
a garden buddha
sits in mandara flowers
preaches the dharma
midsummer moonrise
a hummingbirdβs silhouette
flying across
deer bowing to me
cats rub my belly for luck
I must be buddha
a plum far above
outshines jupiter
in the july sky
at around midnight
the old rocker on the porch
rocking by itself
living quietly
the morning world overflows
hundreds of songbirds
no one at the park
only memories and wind
swinging back and forth
starsβ the lanterns
of pavilion boats sailing
the river of heaven
bright gems on the tide
the milky way spilling
into a dark sea
