Golds, reds swarm outside
My warriors guard the windows
Not one leaf enters.

Close Relations
The universe is a lot like
An uncle or aunt bringing
Gifts and mussing up your hair
Marveling at your growth
Till you get lazy and ignore
Presents while in deep envy
Of what other kids got.
Then says the Big U,
As the goodies vanish,
“If you don’t value me
Why should I value you?”
Christmas Haiku
Along the cold void
Constellations of colors
Shine on my walk home.
Winter
Bound
Children connect us
Like stone bridges
In a garden fallen
To disarray.
Cold Day Haiku
In a living room
Armistice my cats share
Radiating heat.
NEWBORN
Such a quizzical look
On a small round face
As you survey this latest
Incarnation and the extras
Like gravity, marzipan, cats,
And causality. Alas, no one
Lives by writing poetry
But stick around anyway.
Thanks Given
I am a voice in God’s head;
Not lobbying for more
TV, famine, and pestilence
Nor urging Him to paint
Himself blue and run naked
Downtown; instead I praise
His works –the peach, the damson
And, above all, my new grandson.
