cold, before dawn
a neighbors car alarm shrieks
raccoons do high fives

cold, before dawn
a neighbors car alarm shrieks
raccoons do high fives
六十六
squirrels pick red berries
ferment them all winter long
birds pay any price
六十六
young hawks cavorting
sunlight slants through their taut wings
prisms of hushed gold
frogs and dragonflies
left no forwarding address
took the creek with them
rotted boards and posts
a gangplank for deer and skunk
dance floor for raccoons
shimmering above
waves of glistening water
waves of long white wings
ducklings and mother
marching to the swimming pool
she shoos cats away
a flock of blackbirds
scatters like ashes on wind
first sign of goshawks
shades of brown and red
steal through forests of shadows
autumn comes like wolves
young jay flutters down
inches from a feral cat
one in every flock
I toss banana
peels into the brown thicket
explodes into fawns
like people, raccoons
are addicted to garbage
garden is untouched
-0-
safe door cracked open
taunting note, cookies all gone
what raccoons left me
when caught in headlights
they whip out top hats and canes
make a chorus line
that’s how shy our blacktail deer
in my town are becoming
a chittering sound
raccoons make reservations
au club des ordures
a perfect still day
the laundry line snaps and sways
shadows of blue jays
goddess of bread crumbs
birds sigh at the unkempt yard
since you sold the house
robins clamour “Thief!”
two crows make a run for it
posse in pursuit
grasshoppy bambis
skip along a garden wall
mom points out goodies
